Happy Chanukah

Menorah

The 8 day festival of light begins today through the 19th. Chanukah begins on the twenty-fifth day of the Jewish month of Kislev. The Jewish calendar is primarily based on the lunar cycle, and its dates fluctuate with respect to other calendar systems. Thus the first day of Chanukah can fall anywhere between November 28th and December 26th.

4 Airmen stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue Nebraska were playing a modern version of Russian roulette, when one of them was shot and killed. The four airmen had been drinking at a bar, and then went to one of their apartments where they started playing a game of trust, in the end 23-year-old Michael Garcia was dead and 21 year old Corey Hernandez was arrested and charged with manslaughter and use of a weapon to commit a felony. It is unclear if the other two involved will be charged or sent to front line duty where they stand a better chance of survival than they do hanging out with their idiot friends.

****I did some prety stupid things growing up but I was never dumb enough to play with a gun. I guess that is what happens when we expose our children to toy guns, video games full of guns and killing. I guess they now know that there is no reset button on life.****

It’s not a matter of being exposed to guns as children or playing video violent video games. Military members are highly trained in weapons and are very aware of the dangers. It’s when you mix alchocol and poor judgement that these unfortunate events occurr.

I am sure the Airmen were somewhat trained with weapons safety. I doubt they were “highly” trained. Its what happens when a society allows just about anyone who wants to own a hand gun. When we allow our children to play with “toy guns”, point them at other people, pull the trigger and teach them to play war they don’t learn to respect the real thing.

There is no reason for this to have happened.
