It has been hot the past few days. We had some big storms the other night, with straight line winds over 70mph. No damage to the house or fence but it was strong enough to pick up a 3 level cement bird bath out of the ground and move it to another part of the yard. It didn’t break, just moved it and knocked it over. It is amazing how storms can do damage to some things and not others.

Dick Cheney now has no pulse and needs to be plugged in at night.
Cheney had a ventricular assist device connected to his heart last week at Inova Fairfax Heart and Vascular Institute in Washington’s Northern Virginia suburbs.
Dr. Allen Stewart, head of aortic surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital, told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow that Cheney now has no pulse. His heart valves are still closed and the device is now providing a continuous flow of blood.
Even more fascinating is that the device runs on batteries and Cheney is supposed to carry extras with him, and, at night, it has to be plugged into a power adapter in the wall.

The U.S. Army reported a record number of suicides in a single month among active duty, Guard and Reserve troops, despite an aggressive program of counseling, training and education aimed at suicide prevention.
Suicides for the first half of the year are up 12 percent over 2009. In June, 32 soldiers are believed to have committed suicide, including 21 on active duty.
The problem is not isolated to the Army. In 2009, 52 Marines and 48 Sailors took their own lives in 2009, Air Force officials reported 41 active-duty suicides, a 12.5 per 100,000 ratio, in 2009.

Nobody knows what happens to the human body at this altitude in these icy temperatures and at this speed.
